Getting Here

Intro

Our village is about a 15-minute drive south-east of Veliko Tarnovo (VT), the old capital of Bulgaria (see map or Google Maps). The best way to get here is to fly into Sofia, rent a car, and drive the 3 hours to our village, using Google Maps or similar wayfinding apps for navigation. See below for more info on Sofia.

Another option is to fly into Bucharest (Romania), which is also about a 3 hour drive to VT. In this case, we recommend you get a driver from Bulgaria to pick you up in Bucharest because the border crossing may be challenging for someone who doesn’t speak the language and know the rules.

A third option is to fly into Istanbul. Istanbul is shown as a 6 hour drive to VT, but the border crossing is complicated. We haven’t tried it, and don’t recommend it. Aside from that, we highly recommend visiting Istanbul.

Sofia

Sofia is a really great city with tons of history (having been influenced by the Roman, Ottoman, as Soviet eras) and a vibrant culture. You should spend at least a night here for dinner and some sightseeing, but ideally more. The city is very walkable (and bike-able), and safe.
